‘The Flash’ trailer causes mass confusion among MCU followers wearing Brie Larson blinders

It's easy to see why non-readers would be left scratching their heads.

Even though there’s been no indication as to whether or not she’ll be retaining the role under the watchful eye of James Gunn and Peter Safran, Sasha Calle’s Supergirl still managed to make quite the impression in the first full-length trailer for The Flash.

As a multiversal adventure, it’s a simple enough process to write the actress out of the DCU once the film is finally released into theaters this summer, but the new co-CEOs could end up with quite the dilemma on their hands should Calle end up winning rave reviews and vociferous fan backing for her turn as Kal-El’s cousin.

However, it’s those not particularly well-versed in DC’s comic book lore that have been thrown for a love, with the mention of the superhero’s earthbound alter ego raising eyebrows for its similarities to the character introduced to the world in exceedingly polarizing fashion by Brie Larson in Captain Marvel.

It’s not quite on the same level as Slade Wilson’s Deathstroke and Wade Wilson’s Deadpool, but it’s easy to see why Marvel Cinematic Universe followers would instantly make the connection between the two, even if Supergirl made it to the big screen first way back in 1984 in a film so terrible it’s tied with Halle Berry’s Catwoman as DC’s worst-reviewed live-action effort of all-time.

Not everything needs to be boiled down to a Marvel vs. DC debate at the end of the day, but it always has been, and it’s going to continue long after the dust settles on The Flash.
