Eagle-eyed movie buffs lept at the chance to highlight some of the most egregious errors. One user pointed to a discrepancy between the film Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope and the Disney Plus series Obi-Wan Kenobi. Specifically, they found it peculiar that Princess Leia Organa completely forgot about her childhood rescue by Ben Kenobi before he became Obi-Wan.
It didn’t take long for the thread to turn into the most stinging thorn in the side of many Star Wars fans. Vis-à-vis, the astonishing and poorly explained resurrection of Emperor Palpatine in The Rise of Skywalker after Darth Vader killed him in Return of the Jedi.
MrMonkeyman79 called out Obi-Wan Kenobi’s sheer hypocrisy after he decided to kill Darth Vader, only to back out even though Vader told him he would go on a genocidal rampage. Even worse, Obi-Wan later burdens Vader’s son Luke Skywalker with the unenviable task of assassinating his father, only to get mad when Luke suggests resolving the issue through diplomacy.
When it comes to creating self-made catastrophes, it’s clear that Obi-Wan has a lot to answer for.
The Star Wars narrative has been evolving for four decades, and one could argue that the plot holes are part of its charm. Ironically, the space opera is as enduring as a world-class soprano who hits a false note now and then.
