Everybody remembers the Harry Potter games that were released alongside the movies, whether you have played them and loved them, played them and wished for something more, or have just seen the memes of an atrocious-looking Hagrid. If you have missed playing in the wizarding world or want to conjure some spells for the first time, you might be excited for the newest entry in the gaming franchise, Hogwarts Legacy, which is set 100 years before the events of Harry Potter.
The game is an action role-playing game set in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, allowing players to go on a journey as a student, which is a concept fans have wanted for years. While the world of the game seems deep and quite large, one thing that will add to the vibrancy of the world is the game’s cast. Avalanche Software, the game’s developers, have revealed the main cast of the game as well as who they are playing. So let’s take a look at the actors appearing in Hogwarts Legacy and jog our memories to remember where we might have seen or heard them before.
Simon Pegg as Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black
Playing the headmaster of Hogwarts, Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black, during your time in the game will be Simon Pegg. Phineas Nigellus Black is seen in the Harry Potter books and films, as he is one of the previous headmasters whose portrait is in Albus Dumbledore’s office. He has a reputation for being one of the worst headmasters in the history of Hogwarts.
Of course, Simon Pegg is mostly known for his frequent collaborations with Edgar Wright and Nick Frost, in films like Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End. He has also appeared in Run Fat Boy Run, Star Trek, The Boys, and the Mission Impossible franchise.
Sebastian Croft as The Playable Character (Voice 1)
Playing one of the versions of the main character of Hogwarts Legacy is Sebastian Croft. You might recognize Croft from his recent role in the Netflix series Heartstopper, where he played Ben Hope. Sebastian has also appeared in Doom Patrol, Love, Death & Robots, and Penny Dreadful. He also played one of the younger versions of Ned Stark in Game of Thrones.
Amelia Gething as The Playable Character (Voice 2)
Amelia Gething is playing the other version of Hogwarts Legacy’s main character. Before beginning her acting career, Gething had a rather popular presence on YouTube and Musical.ly. She then created her own show for the BBC, called The Amelia Gething Complex. You might have seen her in The Spanish Princess or Emily.
Lesley Nicol as Professor Matilda Weasley
Playing the deputy headmistress of Hogwarts, Professor Matilda Weasley is Lesley Nicol. Professor Weasley is undoubtedly one of the ancestors of Ronald Weasley from the Harry Potter series. Fans of The Boys might remember Nicol as the actress who portrayed Billy Butcher’s (Keith Urban) mother, Connie Butcher. She is probably best known for playing the role of Mrs. Patmore in Downton Abbey. Nicol has also appeared in Animaniacs, Beecham House, and Once Upon a Time.
Asif Ali as Amit Thakkar
Asif Ali voices Amit Thakkar, a Ravenclaw student at Hogwarts. You might recognize Ali from his roles in WandaVision and Don’t Worry Darling. If you recall, he was one of the townspeople Wanda had trapped in Westview in the Disney Plus series. Ali has also appeared in Space Force, The Mandalorian, and Bojack Horseman.
Kandace Caine as Professor Onai
Kandace Caine is playing Professor Onai in Hogwarts Legacy, a professor who originally worked at the African wizarding school, Uagadou, who teaches Divination. You might recognize Caine from her role in the horror movie, The Human Centipede 2. She has also done voice work and was recently part of the voice cast of the first-person shooter game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II where she played Nila “Nova” Brown.
Sohm Kapila as Professor Satyavati Shah
Professor Satyavati Shah, who teaches Astronomy at Hogwarts, is being voiced by Sohm Kapila. Sohm Kapila has appeared in multiple television shows and films like The Mummy, Grey’s Anatomy, Charmed, S.W.A.T., and Jane the Virgin. This appears to be her first role in a video game.
Luke Youngblood as Everett Clopton
Luke Youngblood is playing a Ravenclaw student who studies at Hogwarts and is quite the prankster. Luke Youngblood has actually appeared in the Harry Potter series before, portraying Lee Jordan in both Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Interestingly, he returned to voice Lee Jordan in the video game version of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
You might also recognize Luke Youngblood from his roles in Galavant or Community, where he played Magnitude, the character whose catchphrase was “pop, pop!” Youngblood has also provided his voice to other video games like Grounded and Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond.
Jason Anthony as Nearly Headless Nick and The Sorting Hat
Portraying both Nearly Headless Nick and the Sorting Hat is Jason Anthony. Both of these characters are in the Harry Potter series, with John Cleese appearing as Nearly Headless Nick while the Sorting Hat was voiced by Leslie Phillips. Nearly Headless Nick, or Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, is the Gryffindor house ghost. You probably remember that the Sorting Hat famously sorted Harry Potter into Gryffindor after Harry asked it to not put him in Slytherin.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Jason Anthony has voiced a character in the Harry Potter series. He provided the voice for Ronald Weasley in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, the now-defunct augmented reality mobile game. He has also provided his voice talents in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Total War: Warhammer III, Remnant: From the Ashes, and World of Warcraft.
These actors will be the voices of the main characters in Hogwarts Legacy, although there will, undoubtedly, be more voices in the game. The additional voices will probably belong to other teachers, students, or some dark wizards you might end up encountering in the game. Who knows, there might even be a secret star voicing the game’s main villain.
You can experience Hogwarts Legacy when it releases on Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PC on Feb. 10, 2023.
