‘She-Hulk’ star will be hoping for a season 2 renewal after her other TV show gets dropped

Maslany is facing an unexpected gap in her schedule after AMC brings the hammer down.

Tatiana Maslany had a pretty good 2022. She made a barnstorming MCU debut as Jennifer Walters in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which dealt with the predictable incel backlash against the character by firing shots right back at them. The show ended up a hit, was critically acclaimed, and right now Maslany’s MCU future is looking secure.

Unfortunately, her 2023 is off to a terrible start. The actress has been hard at work on Invitation to a Bonfire for AMC, a six-episode series from Blindspot‘s Rachel Caris Love. Maslany was to star alongside Ngozi Anyanwu and Pilou Asbæ in what’s described as an “erotic, suspenseful, and lush drama — told through the female gaze”.

According to a new report from Deadline, there’s a real-like bonfire at AMC, as the network cancelled Invitation to a Bonfire midway through the first season shoot, with Love revealing she’d been assured the decision was purely financial.

“Everyone on the cast and crew is really crushed. When they called me, they said this had absolutely nothing to do with the creative and everything to do with finance and accounting. That’s a very challenging thing to process when you’re making something really beautiful and special.”

There may still be some light at the end of the tunnel. Love has confirmed that the project is being shopped around to other networks, confirming they’re on a search for “a partner who’s capable of giving us the support that we need.”

Either way, it seems Maslany has an unexpected gap in her schedule, and may be free for a while if Invitation to a Bonfire doesn’t get picked up elsewhere. C’mon Marvel Studios, let’s get shooting some She-Hulk appearances in upcoming MCU projects. We’re hopeful that a second season of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law will be confirmed soon, though there’s got to be room for Marvel’s top lawyer elsewhere.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is available to stream on Disney Plus.
