The popular CW Network show, DC’s Stargirl, is hurtling towards the final episode of its third season this week.
The season’s second last episode just aired, and saw one heck of a setup for a season finale. With Ultra-Humanite, Icicle, and Dragon King teaming up, as well as Pat being buried, all the while Courtney being bereft of the cosmic staff, there’s a lot of threads that need tying up.
While fans wait with bated breath to see the events of the penultimate episode “The Last Will and Testament of Sylvester Pemberton” resolved, there’s also a fair bit of anxiety in the air about the future of Stargirl. After all, The CW Network has been axing shows left and right this year, seemingly regardless of popularity or performance.
Is the fate of Stargirl going to be any different? Or will be be saying farewell to the series next week?
Will ‘Stargirl’ get a fourth season?
The short answer is, no, unfortunately not. Despite consistently being one of The CW’s higher-performing shows, Stargirl shares the fate of multiple other shows which ended up on the network’s chopping block this year.
In case you’re concerned about a Firefly scenario for the show ending its third and final season on a cliffhanger, fear not; Stargirl’s showrunners were aware of the show having a shaky future, and as such they filmed two different endings, one with a continuation in mind and another as a definitive finale according to an Instagram post by series star Brec Bassigner:
Stargirl adds to an increasingly long list of CW shows that were canceled this year, not limited to but including Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and Nancy Drew.
