Obviously, Peacemaker star John Cena has come out far ahead of any of his co-stars in The Suicide Squad in the race to become the standout member but there’s another character that fans would love to see get some love in the DCU now taking shape under new co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. Ratcatcher, played by Daniela Melchior was the emotional center of Gunn’s 2021 film and DC fans are eager to see her further adventures.
Melchior’s character was originally supposed to die in The Suicide Squad at the hands of Peacemaker but director Gunn eventually found that scenario too bleak. Still, Ratcatcher would be entirely justified in harboring a grudge against the antihero/government agent, and many have speculated that she might turn up as an antagonist in the second season of Peacemaker. And many fans think that Gunn’s new job as CEO may just guarantee her return — if not in the series then in some other as yet undisclosed DCU project.
Gunn is an unabashed fan of Melchior, and tweeted his admiration of the actress in June after it was revealed that she would also be appearing in Gunn’s forthcoming and (maybe) ultimate Marvel project, The Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3. Amidst his praise Gunn also stated that he hoped that GOTG 3 was “just the second of many projects we’ll work on together.”
For Melchior’s part, it seems she’s more than game. In August of last year, the actor told CBR that she would like to explore her character more and even debut as a proper DC villain. “She had the opportunity to talk about her father, so I would love to see a little bit more about it,” Melchior said, speaking of the character’s relationship with her father, the original Ratcatcher. “But I would love, also, to see Ratcatcher learning from, I don’t know, why not Bloodsport? How to shoot a gun, how to fight with someone, I would love to see her debuted as a supervillain for real.”
