So, just out of curiosity, does anyone else think the sum total run-time of all clips, trailers, and TV spots released so far for The Amazing Spider-Man are longer than the film itself?

At this point, the deluge of marketing just amuses me, and I think they’ve reached a point of diminishing returns. A new 1-minute TV spot for the film has emerged, and not only is it more of the same, it’s more of the content I’m still not sold on.

The spot focuses on Peter’s “this life is not an easy one” narration, and nearly every snippet of dialogue we hear relates to Peter’s angst over his parent’s disappearance. It’s a concept I absolutely think could work in the finished film, but not if it’s this heavy-handed. Spider-Man shouldn’t be brooding. Spider-Man should be exhilarating. You can have drama in there as well, but there needs to be a proper balance (look to Sam Raimi’s masterful Spider-Man 2 for an example). And so far, I’ve greatly enjoyed the trailers (like this six-minute clip reel) that seem to achieve that balance, and mostly felt turned off by previews like this.

At this point, I just want to see the film and judge it on its own merits. I don’t need any more previews, trailers, TV spots, posters, pictures, or even interviews. I suspect many of you feel the same way.

In any case, check out the TV spot and tell us what you think:
