We’re still a month or so away from the latest Thor installment, Thor: Love & Thunder, arriving in cinemas, but now we’ve our very first look at an entire scene from the film.
Premiering as part of the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards, the clip shows Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in the midst of an epic fight scene, searching for Mjølnir. With dramatic and operatic music, the hammer levitates towards him and he’s more than happy to be reunited.
However, within an inch of his grasp, the hammer pulls back from him, zooming towards the clutch of Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor, played by Natalie Portman. The actress is making her long-awaited return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following a nine-year absence after Thor: The Dark World. Archival footage of Portman was used in Avengers: Endgame ever-so-briefly.
Thor’s gotten very used to people stealing his thunder, so to speak, in the MCU. His last appearance saw Steve Rogers / Captain America wield his hammer to defeat Thanos, before Mjølnir got returned to its original timeline. The hammer itself has also appeared in Disney Plus series Loki, hoisted by Throg (the frog version of Thor). What If…? has also featured the iconic hammer, which can now be built in LEGO form.
Thor 4 is helmed by Taika Waititi, returning to direct after Thor: Ragnarok. Importantly, the cast also features the entire Guardians of the Galaxy cast, as they prepare for their own film set to release in 2023.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to release July 8.
