The fourth instalment of this franchise Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is quickly becoming more and more interesting. The live action debut for Pixar Animation’s director Brad Bird as well as an almighty cast including The Hurt Locker‘s Jeremy Renner, who will be playing a colleague of Ethan Hunt and part of his task force for this new mission.

However more news has come to light regarding Renner’s role, in an interview with MTV he stated that the intention is for him to take over the franchise. He said:

It’s a franchise to potentially take over. I can’t predict the future, but that’s certainly the idea

He declined to say anything furter other than it’s a crazy ride and that he hasn’t done much in the way of acting but the stunts are insane. The film is now shooting in Dubai, presumably getting stunts and complicated effects work out of the way. What is worrying is the suggestion that the script isn’t yet done. Renner also stated.

I can’t really go into the details of the script, because that’s still evolving. It’s Tom’s baby. He’s the engine behind the thing. What happens after that, we’ll see.

Does this mean that the script is unfinished, or that they are going through rewrites? Either way it’s not a great starting point considering they haven’t been shooting long. There is still plenty here to look forward to including villains being played by Michael Nyqvist from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and Anil Kapoor from Slumdog Millionaire. Plus it will be great to see how Brad Bird’s animation discipline transfers to live action, so despite the bad title I’m looking forward to it.
