Lionsgate has announced the Christian Bale starring Chinese film The Flowers of War for Blu-Ray in July.
The Flowers of War, aka the most expensive Chinese production to date, came out in the US last year without much talk. I believe it was submitted as the official Oscar entry for China, but don’t quote me on that. Regardless, it didn’t earn Bale much attention for his performance and it didn’t swoop up any awards at the Oscars.
I’m mostly shocked because foreign stuff tends to be of good quality and Bale usually devotes himself to a role so much that it’ll earn the film some praise, regardless of the overall quality. That being said, The Flowers of War still hasn’t been a discussion starter for anyone as of late.
As for extras, all we know is that the Blu-Ray is coming with five-part documentary, which might offer an extensive look at the filming.
The Flowers of War will be available to own on July 10th, 2012.
