WARNING: The following article contains HUGE spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
In a huge revelation, user TheGamingNewsGuy posted a leaked video to ResetEra — an online gaming forum — which appeared to contain the post-credits scene for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, set to release in theaters on April 8. Originally posted by @ZkullRed on Twitter, the 45-second clip introduces a game-changing character within the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The tweet, linking to a clip that has since been “disabled in response to a report by the copyright owner,” shows what could turn out to be significant revelations about Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Sonic 3), the final chapter in the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy.
Warning: Spoilers to follow.
In the supposedly authentic post-credits scene, military officials are searching a crash site located near a secret base, looking to find Dr. Robotnik, who endured a crash that may or may not have been fatal. Though the clip is no longer viewable, and we won’t give too much away about what was briefly revealed, the scene involved an incubator, a voiceover referring to Project Shadow, and a glimpse of Shadow the Hedgehog.
From the potentially real post-credits scene, we can infer that Shadow the Hedgehog — Sonic’s polar opposite — will be the main antagonist of Sonic 3. By this time, it is likely that Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles will have taken down Dr. Robotnik, and formed Team Sonic. Nine days remain until Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hits U.S. theaters, and the Sonic universe may already be expanding more than any of us could ever have imagined.
Update March 30 2:04pm CT: This story has been updated to reflect the disabling of the leaked video on Twitter.
