Though his increasingly busy plate is filling up with Marvel related projects, Robert Downey Jr. has found time to squeeze in a new film, David Dobkin‘s The Judge. Set up at Warner Bros., the studio has paired the two together on the film because, why not? Downey Jr. did great things for them with the Sherlock Holmes franchise and Dobkins has had a few hits at the studio too (Wedding Crashers) and is also working on Arthur & Lancelot for them.
Deadline broke the story and according to them, the film will follow “a big time lawyer who returns home after his mother dies, only to learn that his father — who happens to be the judge — is a suspect. Working to get to the bottom of the case gives him the opportunity to reconnect with his family.”
Truthfully, it doesn’t sound too special. Though, with Downey Jr. in the lead role, I’m sure not a lot can go wrong. I love Robert Downey Jr. and I’ve loved him in every role he’s had since making his comeback with the excellent and criminally under-appreciated Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Due to his involvement alone, I’ll likely be in theatres for this one.
As for a release date, nothing has been announced. Like I said, Dobkin is working on Arthur & Lancelot and RDJ is tangled up in the world of Marvel, so it may be a while before this one shoots.
We’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
