Hammer Films has announced that a sequel to their horror film The Woman In Black is in the works and it will be titled The Woman in Black: Angels of Death. Released back in February, The Woman In Black scored mostly positive reviews from critics and was considered by most to be truly frightening.
The sequel will be based on a story written by the author of the original Woman in Black novel, Susan Hill. Taking place forty years after the events of the original, the story will focus on a couple and “the experience they have when they encounter the haunted setting of Eel Marsh House.” Seeing as the sequel takes place forty years after the first film, I doubt that any of the original actors will return. But then again, being a horror film, you never know.
For the sequel to be successul, I think that it’s imperative that they land a big name to take the lead role. The use of the Eel Marsh House again is definitely appealing as is the fact that it’s based on a story by Hill. Those two things alone should draw in fans of the original but to attract newcomers, I think Hammer needs a big name to headline the film.
That being said, with the strong source material and the proven success of the first film, I don’t think that the studio will have too much trouble finding big name talent for to sign on.
We’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
